February is the month for romance so what better way to celebrate Valentines day than with a look at top wedding venues in Fethiye? As you may already be aware, there’s been a lot of wedding buzz at the Oceanwide Properties office recently. Suleyman Akbay’s wedding comes at a good time with new figures released by the local census department showing that 1,234 happy couples got married in the area last year, 311 of those foreign.
Suleyman Akbay and Selda Korhans Fethiye Wedding
Suleyman and Selda’s wedding went ahead as planned last weekend and was a fabulous evening affair. Both knowing the area well, they considered many wedding venues in Fethiye but finally chose to hold it at their friends Matisse Restaurant, opposite the Oceanwide Properties office. As it was second time round for both of them, they opted for an informal evening ceremony surrounded by close family and friends. A fairly Turkish style wedding, they arrived having driven the streets of Fethiye in a wedding car with horns blaring and walked up to the venue through a crowded aisle of fireworks. The 200 or so guests were greeted with fruit cocktails, sat either inside or around fire pits placed outside, and treated to fruit platters and tasty mezze plates. The ceremony was typically quick followed by well wishers queuing to congratulate the newly weds and pass on gifts, gold and money gestures. A live Turkish band played until late and the evening sped by filled with love, laughter, dance and conversation.
The Turkish wedding ceremony is very different to that in the UK and most other countries. The official ceremony goes by in a flash lasting only around 10 or so minutes, slightly longer if translation is involved. It is therefore the venue and what you choose to include that makes the day unique. Most restaurants, bars and hotels in Fethiye are happy to arrange a wedding if you ask them. There are also a growing number of wedding organisers and companies specialising in dealing with foreign couples that can walk you through all the necessary legal requirements, and fully arrange the day, should you want to employ one.
