At a recent meeting organized by the ICC G-20 Advisory Group, Carrier spoke of Turkey as one of the ‘potential leaders of the future’ and marked out the ‘high importance’ of the advice and ideas coming from Turkish businesses for the G-20.
Rifat Hisarciklioglu, President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), additionally spoke at the meeting of Turkey’s achievements against the difficulties of the global financial crisis. ‘Governments should do their best to instil confidence in the private sector for growth and employment – Turkey has succeeded in doing that,’ he said.
Recent data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) has shown Turkey’s unemployment rate to have dropped to 9.8 per cent as at December 2011, with joblessness in urban areas dropping by two percentage points and in rural areas 0.7 percentage points over the same period in 2010. Hisarciklioglu states 3.5 million jobs have been created in Turkey since the 2008 crisis.
