At last, with all the wonderful local produce available around Fethiye, there’s finally somewhere to go and buy it! Need a house warming gift or a lovely jar of olive oil for your property in Turkey? Look no further – head over to Fethiye Evi at the Erasta shopping mall.
Fethiye Evi (Fethiye Home) Store opened recently in Fethiye’s Erasta AVM shopping mall.
‘Fethiye Evi’ meaning ‘Fethiye Home’ opened it’s first store recently in Erasta AVM shopping mall near the bus station. The store is the commercial extension of a Fethiye Evi’s existing work run from a beautifully restored Greek town house in the centre of Fethiye. The new Erasta shop is easily missed. It’s not in the centre of the mall but tucked away outside under the large feature staircase.
Fethiye Evi has been supporting the local community for years.
Nesrin Saatci, the wife of Fethiye’s mayor, Behcet Saatci, has run Fethiye Evi with a small team of staff and volunteers for a number of years. Whilst wandering along the harbour front just past Ozsut near the amphitheater, you may have noticed a little buzz of locals occasionally sat at tables drinking tea and tucking into cakes and homemade goodies. You may have spotted the women running their table top sale at the back and passers by gladly ordering doggy bags to take home for later or stopping off for a quick snack in-between going about their daily chores. But what many fail to see is that the proceeds of these sales go to help the young and in need in the local community. The proceeds of the cay and food sold helps children and people with disabilities. It is on this basis that the new Erasta AVM shop will operate. All profits from the store will help the local producers and the handicapped in the local community.
So what does Fethiye Evi sell?
Head along and have a look for yourself. You will find handmade soaps, olive oil, dried herbs and handicrafts. There’s local textiles, jars of olives, salca (tomato paste), jams, dried fruits and preserves along with a whole heap of other goodies all produced locally, nicely presented and well priced. The staff are warm and friendly. When we went the ladies were happily working away on the sewing machine and drinking cay. They were happy to show off the store and make us feel welcome. Do pop along if you get chance – it’s a great place to pick up a house warming gift or souvenir.
